I woke around 8am, which was actually the lie in I needed! The shower facilities at Creekside campsite were very impressive and I made the most of the hot showers available. I did a supermarket shop while Matt slept in a little longer. The supermarkets are fairly expensive here, but it would still work out much cheaper to eat in the van. We made breakfast of peanut butter and jam toast, something Matt loves and is slowly getting me into. We also put on our first load of washing here, we felt very civilised! We paid for another night at the campsite as it was in a great location too!
After our chilled morning, we headed into Queenstown centre to suss the place out a little better. We checked out most of the surf/ski shops they had but no purchases were made, only two scoops of gorgeous homemade ice cream from 'Mrs Fergs', next door to Fergburger. I had white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake which contained genuinely large pieces of cheesecake, and my second scoop was chocolate brownie. Also the best ice cream I've ever had, and I've experienced a lot!
We went into a tourist office and were assisted by a very helpful lady called Monica. She knew pretty much everything that the South Island had to offer.
After serious debating, we booked a horse ride tour in Glenorchy for the next day, followed by a boat cruise of Doubtful sounds the day after. Matt had researched all about Milford Sounds which is a more famous tourist attraction but Monica informed us that it was so over crowded with tourists that it would be manic. Also, it was a 10 hour drive on a coach there and back with only an hour and a half on the water. As Doubtful Sound was not as well known but much bigger, we thought for the extra money, it would be worth it!
With big plans for the next few days, we decided to make the most of the rest of our time in Queenstown. Unfortunately, it was a tad drizzly but that didn't stop us wandering around Queensland gardens. The views over Lake Wakatipu were stunning, I have serious love for lakes now!
We wandered back through the town in search of a reasonably priced dinner. Queenstown was very expensive for food which I suppose is to be expected considering how touristy it is. We managed to find a little cheap restaurant selling pizzas for 9 dollars. We shared a meat feast and made our way back to the campsite. On route we stopped by the gondola taking people to the top of the mountain to a restaurant that over looked the city. It would have been a nice thing to do but along with most things here in Queenstown, it was pricey.
Back at the campsite, we had a chilled evening together before preparing for our next few days. As this campsite was expensive to stay at, we rinsed the electricity and charged everything in site. It could be a couple of nights until we we're back into a power-site again. I couldn't wait for horse riding in Glenorchy tomorrow!
