Christmas morning!! I woke an hour before Matt very excited and decided to put the TV Christmas music on... just to help him wake up a little. For the first time ever, I was away from my family all over the Christmas period and although I felt a little sad I wasn't with them to celebrate, it didn't really feel like Christmas so I think that helped a bit.
Finally Matt arose from his bed to find me dancing around the living room in my nighty and Christmas hat. I couldn't wait to dive into our sacks. We FaceTimed mum and dad, with jack somewhere in the background pretending to be interested and then dived into our sacks. I think it's the first year I've actually been so grateful for fresh bras, knickers and socks! We were chuffed with all our presents! We were very lucky with our cards too, considering we werebaway travelling, we did very well all round.
I made us a breakfast of bacon sandwiches while we FaceTimed Matt's family who were also heading to bed after their Christmas Eve! It was so nice to speak to everyone! We watched our first film of the day and fed Chloe who was in fact an absolute diva who would only eat her food if it arrived on a fresh plate mashed up in the perfect consistency... or she stuck her nose up and swaggered away.
We decided to make up a flask of tea each and take a packet of mince pies down to Takapuna beach which Ursula had recommended to us. Spending Christmas on the beach was surreal but awesome! It really didn't feel like Christmas but the day still had an amazing feel to it, besides, it's another tick of that bucket list!
Once back at the apartment, I told Matt to take a beer, pick a film and remove himself from the kitchen as I was going to tackle our Christmas dinner. I organised myself and tried to sort out my timings and it actually went surprisingly very smoothly with everything being ready at the same time so I could serve it hot! I felt pretty proud... although it was just the two of us, I can't imagine what it's like trying to serve it to a big family.
We spent the rest of the day relaxing, wading our way through multiple films and stuffing just more and more food in before calling it a day around midnight. We'd had such an amazing day, it had been perfect considering we were so far from home! Our awesome Kiwi Christmas!
