Aged Travellers
We had an early start after breakfast, going by coach to Filisur in order to catch "The Glacier Express" This, like "The Benina Express" is a slow moving express through spectacular scenery, this time through the Rhine valley. For the last part they had to change the engine as the track was run by a different company and was a rack and pinion affair. This took us to where we had lunch. Here we had to leave the train and our journey back was by coach along exactly the same route which was a little boring and also coach travel doesn't allow the same freedom of movement as the train. Still we were back by 6 pm, so a quick shower and out to dinner.
We decided to catch the train to Klosters where we had seen a nice place to eat. We didn't take an umbrella, mistake No. 1, because on arrival in Klosters it was pouring with rain. We did consider heading straight back but as there was a nice looking restaurant just across the road, we decided to stay, our 2nd mistake. We dashed through the rain, getting only slightly wet! The restaurant was lovely and we had a super meal. Went back to the station and were delighted to hear that the 9..30 train that we thought we had missed. Was 9 minutes late! However, our delight turned to dismay as the delay got longer and longer. It never did arrive. Apparently the heavy rain had caused a mud slide further up the line which trains could not pass. In the end a special train was laid on to bring us back to Davos but it couldn't leave until a bus bringing passengers from further up the line arrived. We got back to our room just before midnight
