Aged Travellers
I didn't sleep too well. I just felt cold, this in spite of the fact that I kept the heater on all night and had the duvet from the spare bed. Still the day dawned bright and clear and the temperature rose steadily. We drove up Colca Canyon which provided us with some splendid views. The end of the Canyon is supposed to be a good viewing spot for seeing Condors. So, along with a few hundred other tourists, we sat, if you could find a comfortable rock to sit on, or stood, cameras at the ready waiting in anticipation. We had to wait a long time, some 40 minutes, for the first bird to appear, but it was worth the effort. The birds gave us a real good show. We then had the long drive to Puno, our next stop. The road along the Canyon was simply compressed earth so we hurtled down in a cloud of dust behind. We were all relieved when we at last reached the tarmaced road We settled down for a restful ride,, but not for long because this road, a major road, also became a very rough compressed earth road and this lasted all the way to Pumo. We were driving now at about 3000m but it was like driving across a desert. The hotel is excellent I have a double room with two double beds!!! Too tired to go out so ate in the restaurant. Excellent meal More good news Charlton 3. Coventry 0 so a good day.
