How the days are passing so quickly… Since we last posted, we have been exploring around Albany & Denmark.
We found a great free camp spot at Norman Beach, right on the estuary, a short walk up to the surf beach. Its approx. 40kms out of Albany, we decided to base ourselves here and do day trips into Albany. In Albany on the Saturday afternoon, we saw the local remote controlled yachts club out racing, boy they can move. They look so small on the water, but up close they are taller than Lachlan. We saw a few houses that take rock gardens to a new meaning, why pave a concrete garden when you build your house around the boulders? We checked out the Anzac Centre, the boys were most impressed with the gunnery outside and were able to still move them around and adjust the positioning of the barrels, they had no luck finding the ammo, much to their frustration. Albany is where most of the Australian war ships headed off to battle in the World Wars.
We went out to the gap, a lookout that is suspended over the ocean and dramatic cliff faces. Good timing for us, it's just been opened.
We then headed off to Denmark and secured a waterfront site at the River Mouth Caravan Park. The weather has not been so kind, lots of rain, thankfully we missed the thunder, lightning and hale that has been reported to be on the West Coast.
The boys were up early this morning and saw the local fishermen bringing in their catch just up from where we are staying. Our neighbour was given some undersized pinkies (evidently too small for market???), they cleaned & filleted them & offered us some as they had so much. We traded some of our lemons. Went off exploring the green pools, the boys were brave enough to take a dip in between the rain. Then off to the valley of the giants out near Walpole. The boys are currently trying their hand at fishing in the inlet just near camp, so far Cam has caught 1, Lach has caught 2, all black bream (we caught one of these in Tassie, they were lovely tasting fish). Its fish for dinner again tonight.
