We seem to have lost the blog on Singapore so for our info I have now updated as Auckland as the system does not let me put in Singapore!
The only excitement of our trip from home to London and onto Singapore was the Chinese waitress in the BA lounge at terminal 4 who, if you put your drink down, cleared it up. So there were Peggy and I manfully clenching our drinks in hand!
Arrived 6-30pm in Singapore to hot and humid weather- Our hotel was the Marina Mandarin - an excellent hotel with great service. We did a walk about to get some fresh air and then wandered over to the next hotel (being Sunday evening our resto was closed) to have bite to eat. Got depressed on my return as we switched on TV to immediately find them showing highlights of Wales V England.
Next morning we did as part of our package a small bus tour (emphasis on small bus not small tour!) Toured Orchid Gardens, Little India, the Singapore Lion and finally a jewellery centre. Peggy got very interested in a green necklace but I managed to persuade her it was not her colour!! Phew that was close.
In the afternoon we walked down to the Singapore Cricket Club which is a private members club- some of you may know Neil Bowler who died in Bali with the Cricket Club on a rugby tour - we asked if there was any memorial plaque but apparently there is not, but each year on the anniversary a collection is made and given to charity.
Afterwards we caught a taxi to go to Chinatown- Peg was chatting to the driver who convinced her a better idea was to to drive out of the City to the isle of Sensosa. However as soon as we got there Peg felt unwell -we had just started a tour of the aquarium- I have never walked thru an aquarium so quickly - we were nearly running- if I stopped to gawp at a shark or other object, I was promptly told to move on by Peg, we got Taxi back to hotel.
Late afternoon we were off to NZ via Brisbane, where as the Russell blog tells on the flight from Brisbane to Auckland to we had a bottle of corked champagne - a new one for us.
