What I failed to do yesterday was record the hassle we had at the arrivals here. We waited 50 minutes for our bus to arrive and then as it went a roundabout route to our hotel via other hotels , the journey took over an hour so 2 hours from arrivals hall to hotel - bit frazzling.
Thursday was warm but cloudy. We caught hotel bus to ferry terminal and Star ferry to HK island. Very enjoyable watching all the boats. Then caught the bus - not just any bus but the open deck of a double dekcer to the furnicular. After long queue of an hour caught furnicular up to Peak. Could be great views but with pollution not as good as it could be. After lunch inthe resto at peak caught cable car down and onot bus agin to Ferry. As we arrived back in Kowloon we decied to go to Ladies Marekt.Large open air marekt so caught No 2 bus and arrived in somewhat humid weather . Streets full of stalls selling clothes, bags etc. Every second stall says hello lady, hello gent - like to buy copy watches, copy handbags!!
Caught taxi back -very cheap 2 pound for 25 minute journey.
Friday morning woke to a very grey day - sea grey , boats grey , sky grey and buildings grey - this depressing scene was added to by checking flight and seeing major problems at Terminal 5 where we due to land- so unsure if we will get back as planned!!
Spent the morning going over to BA offices as results via the internet failed. Confirmed flight but no seat allocation so told Peggy white lie that all was okay!!
Then went to the HK Stadium which was all set up for the HK sevens. The reserve pitch had a ladies game on and the "stadium village pub" was host to a Friday lunch for Deutsche bank. Unfortunately I was in casual clothes, other wise with a white shirt and dark slacks I could have blagged my way into the booze and a free lunch!
Spenthe afternoon packing and sorting and checked out at 6 so we wasted the time till the 8-30 pick up reading and having a snack meal in the bar. ( good for me as it was happy hour 2 drinks for one!) he drive on the coach was very quick -just over 30 miunutes but Peg not feeling too bright.
In the lounge I spied Ian McGeechan who I later did have a quick chat with as we landed at Heathrow.
The flight was uneventful as we left on time and arived in UK on time.
Terminal 5 was shambolic. The plane was held up 20 metres from the gate as nobody was there to set up the plane parking guidance system. The route from the gate was continual up and down never ending escalators and maglev train. The arrivals hall was full of stacks of abandoned luggage , despite being the only plane in, having landed at 5-00am the luggage did not arrive till 6-00am. The lifts from the arrivals deck to the car park only had one lift working and a long queue so we were advised to find another lift by walking back into the terminal and along a few hundred yards. The car park barrier had a lady checking that the system was working and was very surprised when our ticket worked first time . Welcome back to UK 3rd world!
The best part of the day was some hours later going to Worcester rugby and seeing them beat Gloucester =Yes!!
