Douglas Brown's Travels
Day 36 Heading North we travelled through Gorges du Verdon which is a 25km long and 700 meter deep river canyon, regarded as Europe's most beautiful canyon. Travelling from the South along the left bank we stopped several times for photo opportunities. Continuing North West we reached the small commune of Moustiers-Saint-Marie. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moustie rs-Sainte-Marie For centuries this has been the centre of faience (tin glazed Pottery). A natural spring produces a small waterfall in the village which provides power. We then headed South West to Riez before turning North through Mezel, Digne-les-Bains and onto our only mountain pass of the day. Col du Labouret , 1240 meters. We arrived to a free cold beer at our lodgings for the night, Chateau de Picomontal, a medieval castle on the shore of lake Serre-Poncon and adjacent to the town of Embrun.
