Started at Unley today - and despite sleeping in we got there in reasonably good time. Strolled along around the team cars and waited right at the start right behind the ABC set up so as Peter Walsh interviewed various personalities, we were watching the performance. Managed to beat the race to Victor Harbour which was a beautiful clear aqua shade and with a pleasant breeze. Wandered past the croquet and lawn bowls greens, where the participants continued with their regular fixtures completely oblivious to the hullabaloo surrounding them.
Lunched on flake and chips by the tour village and then managed to squeeze in behind the finish line and watched Eddie Merckx and co on the commentators stage as the bunch sprinted in. Greipel won again and so leads the contest. We went back to the tour village in Victoria Park and accidentally happened upon the Eddie Merckx stand, where a small queue had formed awaiting the great man's signature. So we waited for about half an hour, and Ross successfully got the book signed, for the cost of a small donation to the Cancer Council. What a fluke! But very welcome
Tomorrow the boys do the Bupa Challenge ride, so my heart will be in my mouth until we are safely back together again. Very early start, so that will be a shock to the system.....
