Fulton hogan get to vietnam now! Probably the worst roads we have ever been on. They were ashpelt but may as well have been dirt with boulders as there were that many pot holes. Funny to watch the people in the bus bounce around though. That aside it was our best bus trip ever. Actually arriving 5min early instead of 2hr late!
Dalats inland so we are surrounded by lots of rain forrest and mountains. a nice change having the cool air instead of sweating every minute of the day. Got off the bus and walked straight into accomodation - massive rooms, a double bed each, ensuite, breaky inculded for $5 each a night.
We hit the sights straight away wandering through the town centre when we decided wed give tour guiding another crack and hired another 2 scooters. Britt doubled with gravy and Abs the lone wolf in the pack today. First stop the cable car - which was like the gondola. Luckily this was semi signed and we made it first pop. We went through alot of trees, got great views of the city and went in a straight line accross to get off on the other side. Bout a 10min ride. Had a wee look - not much to see, then jumped back on to headed back. Was only $3US dollars so defintily beats the 20 something u pay in queenstown!
Second stop Datanla Waterfalls. Motorcycled along the road wending and winding through the forest. very well sign posted and we made it - tour guiding ourselves seemed a breeze today! 50cents entry fee and we trekked down to the waterfall. Beautiful sight, much like in the depths of fiordland. There was an alipne coaster - sort of a luge/cresta slide/rollercoater combo that for $2 we caught back up the hill - much better on the breathing than walking.
Third destination: Valley of love. Another success on locating, and what a sight it was! Basically gardens that had love hearts everywhere for posing in, animal sculptures to get pictures, a monkey in a cage, ponys to ride round on, fountains with people in love as sculptures...it was crazy. fair to say we felt out of place but made the most of it getting pictures on majority of the animals and a few love hearts!
Went for a spin round town, around the lake - that had no water, around the crazy round abouts where we came out alive, quick photo outside the gardens, and drove through the fresh seafood, meats and produce - our best work on the motor cycles so far, dodging people left right and centre down skinny roads. Dropped off the scooters then headed out for a feast of a dinner!
Early night tonight as we have a full day booked up tomorrow on a tour, seeing the sights in the countryside!
Day 2 we went on a country tour seeing Dalats sights. First a vegetable farm - there are galss houses/tunnel houses everywhere!!! Next stop a hike up a mountain (ok it was just a hill) to look out over Dalat and the surrounding mountains. Flower farm was next, again lots of tunnel houses with roses, gerberra's, coffee bean trees and lots of tohers. The tour guide bought all the girls on the tour a flower - fair to say we felt pretty special. On from here we hit the coffee plantation and learnt about how coffee is made, Vietnam is the 2nd largest exporter of coffee, 2nd only to Brazil! Next we went to a rice wine/whiskey making place, burnt the inners of our throats when we sampled the 68%proof stuff. To cool oursleves down we went to the elephant waterfalls, our guide told us we would eb seeing elephants, he didn't lie but the elephants we saw were made of concrete, harde har har the big jock! The waterfall however was very cool, especially when we hiked down and could stand below it, and the power of the water comming off that thing almost left you breathless! We also went to a temple or as they are called here a pagoda and saw the massive laughing budda, who we think of all the buddas we have seen he is most like us, fat happy and rich, ok so maybe not so much the last one, but we aspire to get there. A quick trip down the road and we went to a silk worm farm/factory. Quite cool to see the process of the worms in cocoons and then they put them in hot water so that the silk can be removed and spun up, then later it is woven by large machines into different patterns of fabric. Our tummy's were rumbling so we stopped for lunch then off the the crazy house. A lady built it in the 1990's and is actually a guest house as well as a tourist attraction. It was pretty crazy.
After the tour we showered up and then it was party time with a couple that we met on the tour Christine adn Justin form England and another dude from the Bus - Daryn. We played drinking games on our balcony and laughed and chatted the night away. We were joined by two others - laurell (canada) and Derek (holland), staying at the hotel. Things got a bit noisy and what you might find hard to believe laurell is 5 times louder than Abbey!!! So of course we got told to be quiet numerous times so we moved into our large room and that contained the racket. Drinks were running out so we hit a Karaoke bar, we had our own room, TV, song book and toilet it was a hoot! They gave us free fruit - which thay charged us for the cheeky buggars, and Abbey told them too, said they were very naughty and should not do that, paid less and stormed off! Britt was obviously overwhelmed and Did a Marie Patton and fell asleep on the couch so Grace took her home. Abbey headed out to a night club which had a staff member for every table, a boogie wonderland saturday night fever floor and you werent allowed to take pictures! Fair to say great night.
Our concensus on Dalat was that it was ok, but if you have limited time you should skip it out, we were glad to meet some cool people tho and our wolf pack has grown to 8!
