Today we took the shore excursion "Inverness on your Own". We arrived in Inverness after a 30-minute bus ride through some beautiful countryside. It's a beautiful day in northern Scotland, sunny and 72. We were dropped off at St. Andrew's Cathedral, built in 1869. There was a church service going on, so we couldn't go in. We walked along and across the River Ness to the Castle, which has been the Sheriff's Office since 1834. The Museum next door was closed since it is Sunday. A lot of the little shops and bars were closed also.
We found the Victorian Market, which is a small indoor shopping mall. We had a cup of tea and mocha while waiting for the stores to open. Bought a couple of souvenirs there. We then walked down one of the busier streets and found a couple of neat of churches and a graveyard where I took some pictures.
We found an American-style restaurant, the Filling Station, where I finally had fish and chips LOL. We stopped at a few more shops and bought some more trinkets. We found the modern East Gate Shopping Mall, and the Pandora store, and I bought a blue stone ring, and a unicorn bead, the symbol of Scotland, to go with the kilt bead I bought two years ago when I was in Scotland.
Went into St. Andrew's Cathedral on the way back to the bus. Another stunning old church with gorgeous large stained glass windows.
I LOVE Scotland, it's one of my favorite countries.
Off to Edinburgh tomorrow.
