Happy birthday to my lovely dad today!
We had an early start as we were getting picked up between 6.30-7am. We waited outside with our bags and got picked up at around 7am. We spent just over an hour in the mini van driving to the harbour. When we got out it got a little confusing we sat for a little while in a cafe with some people being given tickets and us not then us and some other people were taken to another cafe where we were given tickets and our return tickets. I guess they were just different boat companies. We had to wait until 9.15am to board the boat so while we were there we got some toast and jam for breakfast. Our bags had already got a sticker on and been taken to the boat so at 9.15am we were pointed in the direction of the pier to get on. There was a few minutes of waiting around for another boat to set off but then we got on. The boat was pretty nice, the seats were comfortable and it wasn't too overcrowded which a lot of people have said happens. After quite a while on the boat it made it's first stop on Lombok where some people got off at the pier. It then made the short trip to Gili Air where the boat pulled onto the beach and people got off by walking round the sides of the boat and getting off down some ladders at the front into ankle deep water. Luckily they didn't have to carry their luggage down it was passed off the boat by the staff. Next it was our turn to Gili Trawangan which was another short trip away, we got off the same way as Gili Air. Once we got off the boat and found our bags we could see the island's 'tuk tuks' small horse and carts. There are no motorised vehicles on any of the Gili islands so they all use horses instead. We asked someone to point us in the right direction for our bungalow at Gili Life homestay and walked to find it. It's set back away from the beach and all the shops and restaurants but this should mean it's a lot quieter. It's a bungalow type building with a wall fan and a balcony area, it's pretty nice. We were sat in our bungalow just before midday which wasn't bad considering all the travelling we've done this morning. We had a little organising to do like getting some laundry handed to the owners as we're running out of clean clothes, but we then went for a walk of the place. The island looks really chilled and the people seem really friendly, I think we're going to like it here. We got something to eat then headed back to our bungalow to chill for the evening.
