Great day exploring Broome. Started by visiting the Buddha Sanctuary; Grandma’s idea, not terribly exciting but perhaps that’s the whole idea. Next stop was Gantheaume Point, where the lighthouse is; the lighthouse is not picturesque but the rock formations on the point certainly are, as you can see in this photo. The boys enjoyed rock climbing and watching the swells smack against the rocks and spray everywhere. From there we went to the jetty, walking out quite a long way to where a fancy new drilling ship, the “Fugro Synergy” is berthed. The tide was running out, making eddies around the piers of the jetty.
This afternoon we went back to Town Beach (on Roebuck Bay) to the water playground there, and Jesse and I had a play on the wide wet beach left behind by the dropping tide. Cable Beach (on the Indian Ocean) was our last destination, for our sunset camel ride. The boys had a swim in the surf before the ride, jumping over the waves; they really love the ocean. The camel ride was perfectly timed, with the tide reaching its lowest just as we finished, so plenty of reflections in the wet sand. At high tide it just wouldn’t be the same. Max was very curious about how we would mount and dismount, and what the ride would be like, but in the end, to his surprise I think, he really enjoyed it. “It was just a bit jerky when the camel stood up.” Will try to get back to Cable Beach tomorrow evening to take more photos.
