We hadn't really found much that there was to do in Cozumel & we were pretty correct. We were off the boat around 9 am after getting in at 7, pulling up beside a Royal Caribbean ship & a carnival ship at the international pier which we thought was around 1.5 miles from town but turned out to be closer to 3. It was overcast but humid so it was quiet a warm walk, luckily along the edge of the water which was quite rocky along most stretches obviously being a continuation of the reef off shore. It was one of those places that could have been anywhere, everyone spoke English to you, it was the same 3 types of shops (jewellery, tacky souvenirs & restaurants) & there was no particular distinguishing features to the architecture. Some dark clouds loomed so we stopped in the main part of town for a Dos Equis beer each (& to use their free wifi) and then with nothing else to do or see walked back to the ship, stopping to look through the holes in the wall of the dolphin place to watch them swimming around before the tourists had them pushing & pulling them around in the water. Legs a little weary we arrived back at the ship & within about 5 mins it had started to rain. Perfect timing! It persisted until after we left port at 4pm so thankful we hadn't got stuck in it we went to the buffet for lunch. I had tacos given we were technically in Mexico even if it didn't feel like it. We relaxed in our room until we departed with partial visibility a little after 4 the went up to the top bar for a drink only to find it closed for a private function, instead trying the bar on the back deck of the buffet where I had another strawberry daiquiri & Sean did not enjoy his extra tobasco-y Bloody Mary. To wash the spice out of his mouth we changed spots to the Gastrobar for a few beers then got organised for dinner. Tonight on the menu were recipes from the US tv show 'Top Chef', I had beef ribs for starter, flank steak for main & a strawberries & cream/Eton mess for dessert. I was started to feel a bit worn out after all that walking so it was pretty much straight to bed for me afterwards. I wish I had my pedometer as I'm sure we would have racked up more than 10kms today plus all the stairs on the ship!
