Another big breakfast to start the day served on the table just outside our room with water feature tinkling in the background. We were up marginally earlier today to visit the Museo Historico before the heat kicked in too much. The downstairs part of the old sugar plantation owners house was the usual displays of old furniture & display boards but the real attraction here was the view from the tower on the roof. There were very steep narrow stairs that wound up to the roof but had an amazing panorama up to the mountains in the background of Trinidad's tiled rooftops & down to the sea in the opposite direction which was where we were heading next. Mum wanted a ride in a old car down to the beach & we managed to find one which we shared with with an Italian couple to Playa Ancon about 16 kms from Trinidad for 5CUC per couple. Walking between the palm trees we were treated to gorgeous white sand and turquoise water laid out in a wide sweeping arc before us. There were palm frond umbrellas & beach loungers set up along the beach so we took a chance they wouldn't be too expensive & secured two, luckily they were just 2.50CUC each for the day. We happily whiled away a few hours relaxing, taking quick dips in the not so cold water & bought a coconut to drink & snack on. For the return we waited to share another old car back to Trinidad, this one in a worse state than the last & overpowering us with the smell of petrol. We happened to get dropped outside the telephone shop & the park which had wifi so we bought a couple of wifi cards to use later then walked the 5 or so mins back to the casa for a shower & short cool down. To keep me going until midnight we went to the coffee shop opposite the casa & I had a slightly bitter cappuccino & shared a ham/cheese sandwich with mum. A bit more of a siesta back in the cool room and then we walked back to the wifi park to use the Internet. The casa owner was nice enough to reserve a restaurant for us as she was worried they would all be closed being NYE. After seeing a fight break out of a house around the corner we backtracked to the restaurant and started with mojitos and a lobster cocktail. It would have been years since I last had lobster and it had a very nice cocktail sauce. We then shared chicken with rum sauce & a fillet of fish. The music in the restaurant was very good & the singer had a very smooth voice- kind of like a Cuban Michael Buble. After dinner we returned to Casa de la Musica which was already very busy. We had a drink at the bottom of the steps first for some people watching and then went to find a spot near the stage. Tonight was a Caribbean style dance/performance group first of all and then about 11.30pm a salsa band came on but it was far too crowded to move let alone dance. Another fight broke out in the middle of the dance floor & then it was the quick count down and 2016 rolled in with a few sparklers & a couple of poppers in the crowd. Working our way back through the crowd which spilt out into the square from the packed steps we returned to the casa to catch some sleep before our big day of travel to start the new year.
