We arrived in Pisco in the afternoon, and the devastation from the earthquake in November 2007 was still very evident.
Our guide took us for a walk around the city, and there are still a lot of temporary buildings around the city that locals are living in. Some tents are still up and people are living in those. I'm not sure where the bathroom facilities were as the temporary building were just one room prefabs.
Not many restaurants are open, and luckily the hotel we stayed in wasn't damaged during the earthquake so we felt quite safe staying there.
Next morning we were picked up early for our trip to the Balista Islands.
The boat trip was in a smallish 20 seater where we were seated for the entire trip (not any room to move around the boat). The animals on the islands were pretty amazing.
Lots of seals, penguins and lots of birds. Some of the birds were circling around the island and the circle was endless. They apparantly circle the island looking for fish to eat.
It was really impressive and nice stop as our second to last in the journey.
After the boat trip we caught another bus (again without a toilet) to Lima.
