We had an interesting border crossing from Bolivia into Peru.
When we stamped into Bolivia the immigration police marked our stamp ST which means slip not required. However when we reached the border with Peru the immigration police insisted that we had a slip and we must pay 20 Bolivianos (1.50 GBP) before we could leave the country. We kept pointing to the words ST and insisted we didn't have to pay but they wouldn't have any of it.
Unfortunately our guide couldn't help (she didn't have to pay and was in exactly the same situation as us). Due to the Bolivian police being semi corrupt if they see her with a group they say shes guiding illegally in Bolivia as she doesn't have a Bolivian tour guide certification. therefore as every border crossing she has to pretend to ignore us and we go through by ourselves.
The whole bus had gone through and even with our guide explaining to the bus driver the police still insisted that we had to pay. well the only way out was to pay but we still felt ripped off (its the principal not the 1.50 GBP)
After stamping out of Bolivia the Peru police seemed so nice in comparison.
We are now in Puno and about to take a 2 day trip to the islandas
