Our big old car (Tony called it a piece of junk) picked us up at our hotel at 8am from our two hour drive to the largest sand dune in the world.
No seatbelts in the back seat and I'm not sure if the windows rolled down but the seat was comfy and as the scenery was generally desert with a few orange trees every now and again I read my book most of the drive.
We arrived at the XXX township and we immediately hoped into the dune buggies for our drive up to the top of the sanddune. There were 6 of us in the buggy including the driver and as Tony and I got there last we were in the back.
Driver was pretty good and took us over some pretty good bumps and down some really steep cliffs. My seatbelt wasn't very tight so I had to hold onto the roof rails and dig my feet into the seat infront to stop myself getting thrown everywhere.
We then were able to go sand boarding. We first stopped at a smallish hill and got to try it out. The idea is that you go down on it like a snow board, and on my first go I chickened out and just lay on my stomach and went down.
Well the second hill (which was significantly bigger) I thought I mayas well not be such a wooze and got on it again as a snowboard. Well I wiped out big time I actually managed to hit myself in the back with the board and was totally covered in sand and spitting it out of my mouth.
The guide actually was saying to can't use it like a snowboard, and as soon as I said well I don't know how to snowboard he was a little more helpful and suggested a slightly different way down so that I didn't wipe myself out of the second hill.
When we got back to the township one guy actually laughed at my face, and said you've been sandboarding!!
We grabbed some lunch (after I'd washed my face clean of the sand) and then we got to relax by the pool for a couple of hours before our transfer to Pisco.
The bus station at Pisco was really busy and we had to wait for an hour while our tour guide stood in the line to get tickets.
Bus was ok to Pisco but no toilet but luckily the drive was only about 2 hours.
