Penang - After two and a half crazy months in Thailand, dodging tsunami's and constantly getting soaked by the monsoon, we were finally on our way to malaysia, our final part of south east asia before australia...
after a long bus ride by a suicidal thai driver we arrived in georgetown, which at night was lit up by lots of different street food stalls (hawker stalls), which we were used to eating at in Thailand, but these ones were different, it was a mixture of Indian and Chinese, which we took full advantage of straight away, buying noodle soup, samosa's and Chinese tea...
the following morning we were up early to mooch around... straight away found out we were staying in chinatown, down a road called love lane. chinatown is constant go 24hrs a day, fruit and sweets stalls along side tea houses and herbal shops, whilst in the background there is shouting and song birds in cages, quite a place to stay. after further venturing we found little india which was pretty much the same but with loads of curry stalls, spice and fabric shops and the sound of loud bangra and bollywood music, again another crazy non stop place.
to escape chinatown and little india, we took a bus to the bontanical gardens, which is far away from the city and quiet! we walked around and spotted a few monkeys scattered around screeching at each other. we also saw some turtles sat and waited for them to do something for bout half an hour, they did not, just blinked that was about it... on our way out of the gardens, we saw a couple feeding one or two monkeys, which soon turned in to about 40 scavenging monkeys, the couple got mobbed, so we left them to it...
