We're off the ship and depressed. Barcelona couldn't have turned on a more glorious day, but nothing could lift the spirits this morning. Depressed to have left the Magic behind, no one has had more than 5 hours sleep, and they're all about to suffer me not wanting to lose a day in a new city.
We dump our bags at the hotel, get some pointers from the concierge then head off to find Las Ramblas - but we don't. A block or two too early means we much less exciting parallel run but discover the Catedral de Barcelona where we have a few coffees and spanish breakfast pastries I've forgotten the name of. Realising our error we cut through some of the walking streets between the Cathedral and Las Ramblas, pause for a shop or two and eventually bump into Las Ramblas. Right on the corner is the London family of Emerson's new friend Maddie from the boat, they tell us we have to see the market, the girls think of anything they can discuss to prolong their time together, by now their 13th goodbye since last night, and eventually we're strolling again.
On the way to the market Max flicks through the map and spies the Aquarium on the cover, so that's now all we're going to talk about for the next hour as we stroll down. In the Market I'm almost regretting staying in a hotel, would be brilliant to have an excuse to go shopping in here. On the stroll towards the port the atmosphere is fantastic with people everywhere soaking up a magical day. As impressive as the scene is, I'm almost more impressed with the kids handling of street sellers, they spy them a mile away and shut them down as soon as they point their feet at them.
At the Port we're into the aquarium and loving the aircon! There's a mediterranean exhibit, but almost everything else looks very familiar to the untrained eye. Since we're in the port we opt for seafood tapas by the water - my first real tapas in Spain, delicious. Prawns, Squid, Chorizo, Cheese - I feel like maybe we're having all the cliche'd dishes, the Sui Mai and Har Gow of tapas - but its delicious!
We stroll back up from the port and head further north this time to the area missed this morning, then back to the hotel. At some point Emerson found out we have a pool in the hotel so that's all she wanted to hear about. I've done 25k steps today, so the little one must have done close to 40k, all on 5 hours sleep so we have a proper Spanish siesta. I tried waking everyone before the pool closed, but no luck. With everyone shattered we give up and turn in for some much needed sleep.
