Day 1: 25 hour journey flying from London to Dubai then on to Brunei, before flying into Melbourne, feeling not too bad, we slept on and off pretty much the whole flight. Was a good fly, food was alright, conformable seats and really good in-flight entertainment (finally watched Rush, what a great movie!) We jumped on the skybus into the city, then onto a train from the city to Malvern. First experience of Aus trains..umm well it was late and after 2 stops it broke down and we had to wait for 20 minutes for the next one. By 7am it was already into the 30's, so we were dying to dump our bags and freshen up. We picked up the key to Rachel, and Barrys place from the Café where Barry works as the chef, menu looked good, coffee smelt good and we weren't disappointed. Cafes in Aus are not like the ones in the UK, the food is freshly prepped, cooked to order with good ingredients, and its not all bacon sandwiches and baked potatoes.
We did a few bits around town, then chilled in the afternoon 40+ heat, and then popped back into the city for a bowl of Pho from a Vietnamese restaurant.
Day 2: Popped into see our Recruitment Agent, then grabbed some nosh in a Vegetarian Indian Restaurant, was really nice, and then headed over to the National Art Gallery.
Day 3: Went back to the Gallery because we didn't get to see it all in one day (it is huge), then had a picnic in the park opposite the gallery. We then went to the urban market and Melbourne Centre mall for a beer and to the cinema (more for the air-con than anything else!)
Day 4: Chilling out today, going to cook up a Nasi Goreng and watch a movie as we have the place to ourselves tonight.
All in all been a really good first few days and really love Melbourne, people are friendly, you get a real sense of culture and the food is good (although I may need to try more to be sure)
