Brenton Kovacs's Travels
21st
Our itinerary for today goes like this.
After breakfast drive to Pushkar, en-route visit to Elkingi (Temple complex), Nagda (Group of Jain Temples), on arrival in Pushkar transfer to Hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
Pushkar is a town of Rajasthan in India and well known as a Hindu religious center. It even has various sacred temples. Pushkar is located on the shores of Pushkar Lake and has five main temples along with other small temples and almost 52 ghats. Pushkar is at an elevation of 1673 feet approximately. Reaching Pushkar is easy as the town has good connectivity of roads and the nearest airport is Sanganer Airport of Jaipur. The closest railway station is at Ajmer. October to March is the best time to visit Pushkar as the weather remains comparatively cooler at this time of the year.
So we set off at 9am. Today was the worst day of driving. Road works everywhere, so it was slow going. The traffic was chaotic, and it seemed to take forever to get to Pushkar
We arrived in Pushkar late in the afternoon. After sitting for much of the day we walk from the hotel high on the hill down to the lake for a look. Its not the prettiest place at all, but as there are plenty of little shops, Shauna feels at home.
It begins to rain as we go to bed.
22rd
Lots of rain last night, nothing like the sound of rain. As we are the only guests in the hotel, service is none existent. We wait nearly 20 minutes to see a staff member for breakfast. lucky we told our driver not to pick us up till 9.30am.
The drive into Jaipur is not the best. The rain makes visibility bad, but at least most people are driving slow. unfortunately we do come across a bad accident between truck and small car. I deided not to look as we drove past, Shauna had to look and she saw dead peolpe. Told her not to look. We were told by the driver that the police will not come, only ambulance. It seems there are no police to patrol the roads.
We arrive in Jaipur and take a rest in the hotel, as it was a long drive.

Here is the itinerary for today
After breakfast excursion of Amer Fort ascend Fort on Elephants back, afternoon tour of city visiting City Palace, Jantar Mantar (observatory), Palace of Winds, Birla temple. In evening transfer to hotel. Overnight stay at Hotel.
Capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1728 A.D. It is also called Pink City because most houses in old city are pink colored. The city is surrounded by thick wall 20 feet high and 9 feet wide with eight gates. Ajmeri gate and the Sanganeri gate in the south, Chand Pole gate in west and the Ghat Darwaja in the east are the main gates. The city is surrounded by the hills except in the southwest. Fort and the temples can be seen on the hills.
The guide is ok, but offers us too much information. Once the tour is over we opt to visit the largest shopping mall in Jaipur. Here we have some western food and a nice hot chocolate and cake. it is so nice to have a change from the Indian food. Shauna makes a few purchases and then its back to the hotel and pack up as tomorrow its off to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. The worst part will be the 6 hour drive to do 280ks
