After another attempt to work off 2 or 3 calories, we headed east to Memphis. We drove through the hills of Missouri and Arkansas, then farmland and finally crossed the Mississippi River and arrived in Memphis late afternoon. We decided to use our Choice Points and got a room on the river, 15th floor with a view that couldn't be beat. After oohing and awing, we took the Trolley to Beale Street. We climbed the steps up onto what we thought was the loading platform (actually the handicapped access to the Trolley), got down and and boarded the Trolley, letting everyone know we are touristas! We had a very entertaining driver and we got off at Beale Street. We enjoyed a beverage and fried dill pickles while listening to whom the bartender said was one of the only remaining old-timer blues legends, Blind Mississippi Morris. He had a great group of musicians. We trolleyed back to the hotel and were caroled by some girl scouts. We got back in the car and headed to our last feeding frenzy...Central BBQ. We learned about the Central when we were in Austin from a guy who almost gave Larry a parking ticket at UT...lol. We reconfirmed through the web that this was the place to go...many awards and a definite candidate for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives! The ribs were awesome...we ordered them dry with sauce on the side...delicious! Since the pulled pork won 1st place in Memphis
last year, we shared a pulled pork sandwich for dessert. While eating, I noticed a guy eating what looked like a tamale....yep, it was...we had a couple of those too! They only get them this time of year from The Delta...whatever that is! Anyway, they were very good, but we had filled ourselves with the ribs and Q...washed down with a Shiner Boch! We made it back to the hotel and watched a few barges going up and down the Mississippi...a beautiful site!
