Saturday started at 0-dark hundred (3am for Dave)! We had reserved a cab to the train station for 5am, a 5:40 am train to the airport, & a 7:20 flight. Because of timing we had to do an Oslo-Bergen-Sogndal triangle. The 737 out of Oslo switched to a little Dash 8 out of Bergen. It was a bit bumpy going up but not bad overall. We arrived at Sogndal airport & nobody was there! This was the only part of the trip we didn’t have full details set.A sign announced the bus would be ready to go after all the baggage was received - funny cuz we hauled ours on board. But, ok, this was progress.

Arriving in Sogndal after a pretty & curvy drive, we found no one at the bus station & a closed taxi office next door. Our plan had been to take a ferry to Balestrand, but at this point we had no idea where to go or when. Everything was pretty much close down on the weekend. The bus driver checked his app & said there would be a bus to Balestrand at 4pm, 6+ hrs off. At this point we decided to find some coffee & headed over to a Quality Inn hotel. No food, but a free coffee. We asked the desk clerk about the cab situation & she said she could call one for us. Long story short, we made Balestrand about noon! Had lunch while waiting for our room, checked in & took a walk.

The fjords are incredibly pretty & everyone in Norway has just been super nice. Can’t wait for a longer hike tomorrow.
