Where are my party people?
Hey everyone!
I am in Hervey bay at the moment and we have already done Fraser Island which was stunning. We arrived in Hervey Bay on the 25th and stayed for the night and had to wake up at 6.00 for a 6.45 briefing and then we got going at 9.00am. We had ordered food the night before and the Butcher dropped our meat off and we picked the other food from the supermarket. We certainly bought enough! We also had to get all our alcohol of which of course we bought more than any other group!
We were the lead vehicle as none of us were 21 so we couldn't drive. We had two other Danish guys with us who were 19 and 20 who were seriously cool too so our group of six set out with the music blasting and 3 more old school Toyota Landcuisers in tail. We got a 45 minute ferry from Hervery to Fraser which was pretty standard, nice day though so a bit of sunbathing!
When we arrived we went straight to one of the many lakes on the island. As Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world it means lots of stingrays live there as they live on sandbanks and because Sharks hunt stingrays as a main source of food you aren't allowed in the sea at all!! We were told there was every dangerous shark in the water, Bull, tiger, great White, mako, hammerhead, the whole nine yards... Scary stuff.
So we stuck to the rainwater lakes! They were so beautiful. Really warm and massive, most were clear but one was the colour of tea! It was a very odd experience, it was so strange diving in, it felt like diving into warm tea! There were lots of turtles and little fish everywhere.
The four wheel drives were a lot of fun, we couldn't drive them but we were in the lead vehicle with the guide so he was pretty good anyway! There were lots of big banks and soft sand to battle through so lots of tipping back and forth!!
In the evenings at camp there was nothing to do except eat and drink... Lots... It was a laugh, we met lots of people and we met some people who will be on the same boat in the Whitsundays as us.
We did a 2 night, 3 day tour, go to bed late, wake up early, do lots during the day! We powered through it and now I am shattered! So much fun but very tired!
Hopefully this blog will catch up on a few bits!
