After breakfast we made another long drive (4 hours) to Amed, an isolated fishing village on Bali's east coast. Driving there was very pretty and winding up cliffs, it reminded me a bit of the drive up Mt. Tam. Once we arrived here, it was amazing. We are staying in these awesome beach bungalows right on the beach. The area we are in is super rural; there is no wifi and the majority of the population here is quite poor. The bungalow is complete with 2 outdoor beds, a hammock on the patio, an indoor bed, and an outdoor bathroom (with a western toilet thank goodness). We all went into the water immediately; the water is warm and the sand is black dotted with pieces of coral all over. I spent a good part of the afternoon in and out of the water or in the hammock just hanging out. Some locals hanging out here are pretty friendly, and even offered some of us sips of arak (local rice alcohol here) and took some people on motorbike to other nearby beaches (not me, motorbikes are dangerous in my opinion). After dinner, all the people who were drinking decided to head off to a local bar which was a few miles down the rural road. Loving my bungalow, I decided to stay and relax listening to the ocean waves. was apparently exhausted, because I knocked out at 7:30PM. Sleeping outside was so cool! Although I was pretty cold at some points and had to dress into long sleeves since there were no blankets.
