Holey Moley!!!
Our air conditioning here is soooo loud!
It literally sounds like a plane prepping for take off. - Even with ear plugs you can still hear it clearly and if you turn if off you can then hear a whirring fridge like noise.
So, needless to say it wasn't the best night of sleep. - That said, it became very apparent when Rob woke up that he hardly slept either.
I say very apparent because when I grinned and waved to him he humphed and pulled the covers up!
The next 30 minutes was Rob doing a comedy replay (laced with sharing of his frustration in a playful way) of me keeping him awake allegedly talking in my sleep and snoring (well, I am starting a cold in my defence and I am no where near as bad as Rob).
Well, once he finally got up, Mr Grumpy made me laugh as his pants were so baggy they looked like a netball skirt!
When I laughed and told him this, Mr Grumpy actually cracked a smile :0 (I shall try this tactic again....)
Once we were up and after sorting a few things out on the internet (re-confirming bookings for the hotel in Phuket and paying the Scuba deposit), we went to the ATM where we realised someone had taken all Rob's money!!!!
Dun, dun, dun!! (queue dramatic music).
After a little research we discovered two unauthorised payments on PayPal totalling over £1,000.
Poor Rob (even though he was grumpy pants this morning that didn't warrant being hacked).
So, we logged a claim with Paypal, checked both our accounts etc and transferred some money in to cover things whilst Paypal sort things out.
Once that was done we had lunch and then went to find the Royal Palace.
After a while we couldn't find the palace and were told it was shut and we were not correctly attired anyway (the man on the moped was actually really lovely and helpful by saying this and also gave us tips of temples to see and what was a fair price to pay to get there).
We then decided to go to Siam shopping centre and Rob used the internet and street map to plot the route.
After a lot of lefts and rights and about 20 minutes walking, Rob couldn't understand why we were not there or at the very least very close (despite his Spidey senses!).
Rob's confusion prompted me to ask what setting street maps was on and after checking we realised it was set to car (ie 15 mins by car 45 mins walking).
Sack that we thought as it was very muggy so we negotiated a ride in a tuk tuk.
Now the tuk tuks in Bangkok are very different to Vietnam and Cambodia and the drivers it seems are literally spawned from some kind of demonic racing God (our trip back was even worse with a emergency stops and screeching tires every few minutes!).
Siam shopping centre is massive. Every kind of possible brand is there and if you are looking for a bargain, forget it!
It was great to see the place in person.
The one thing we could afford was an ice cream and boy was that an experience!
9 small scoops of ice cream, melon balls, banana slices as wafers all laid out for us to dip in a chocolate fondue!
It tasted amazing!
When we got back to Khao San (the main road with loads of shops a d bars near our hotel) we (well Rob really, I just walked behind him) explored the shops for a few hours and got some great things.
An emergency loo break for me resulted in a desperate and odd walk back to the hotel and then I met up with Rob again for (you guessed it) more shopping!
Thankfully tonight is our last night on Bangkok and our flight to Phuket leaves at 20:30 - hurrah!
