AT Copacabana, Lake Titicaca, we decided to wlk the 17km from there to Yampaputa. Its a nice walk, and easily could be somewhere at home with gravel roads lined with gum trees, only difference is theres a wopping big lake on your left the whole way, oh and its hard to breathe at 3800m.
We caught up with Sheela from Canada and Christoph and Roxy from South Africa. We walked with those guys most of the way. When we got there, they were heading back the same way (hopefully by truck- if not, it was another 17km), we caught a boat to the Isla del Sol. When we got there, walked into town (after having an argument and eventually paying 5 bolivianos each just for being on the island). A little boy walked in front of us- trying to get a tip or commision for taking us to a hostel.
We had trout for tea- its the place to have it.
Next day, we walked the island- after another aguement and 20 bolivianos- the lady yesterday said the pass was for the whole island, and for the next day aswell. Then we found a restaurant- well it found us- there was a girl out the front shouting that they hade food, coffee, brakfast lunch etc. So, since we had had bikkies for breakfast, we went there. It turmed out they didn{t have any electricity- very little food either for that matter. Eventually we managed to get some crepes. Then we met the guy who was cooking- he was a spanish tourist named Manolo, who doesn{t even work there, but got roped in that morning to give them a hand. He was a great cook though, and we all thought it was hilarious. Once we had ordered the food and they realised they didn{t actually have any, the girl stopped yelling at potential customers as they went past.
I have grave fears for what will happen now that Manolo has left the island.
We froze on the 3 hour boat back to Copacabana, and now we are wearing thermals everywhere.
That was also BJs birthday, and we celebrated with cake- see the photos.
The next day, after travelling to Puno, Peru during the night, we went to the floating islands- very interesting.
Next stop is Cuzco, where we hope to do some trekking- and wash some clothes!
