Deb & Ju's Travels
Hi all
We hit the road on Thursday and made our way from Christchurch to Twizel. On route we took in the amazing scenery. It's so contrasting and the pictures just don't do it justice. You all must visit at least once!
We took the inland scenic route passing Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki which has views of Mount Cook in the distance. Before we landed in Twizel we stopped off at a little town called Fairlie and had some fairlie nice tea!
Friday morning we got up early to drive up to Mount Cook but the weather was really cloudy and drizzly so we went on a short walk then decided to drive on to Queenstown. On route we stopped at a gold mining area where you can go jet boating, but we decided against it as we didn't want to drive with soggy arses! We had some devonshire tea and scones before heading towards Queenstown again. We stopped and watched some bungy jumping, it was quite amusing when some girl nearly lost her top as she got dunked in the river. We have made a pact that if either of us meet the man of our dreams then we have to do a bungy jump. Think we can safely say that both of us will not be partaking!
Anyway, we arrived in Queenstown the supposed party town of New Zealand. It is so beautiful and bizarre to think you are in one of the main towns/citys when you can see a lake, mountains and beautiful countryside as soon as you wake up in the morning, but hey we aren't complaining. We ventured out last night to taste the nightlife and managed to last til around 3am, not bad for somewhere which is smaller than a town at home. For the irish contingency reading this we went to a bar called Pog Mahones.
Weather is still pizzling with rain! Hope to put pics on soon but the computers a bit slow and we have to go meet our mate Cliff that we met in Aus.
We are staying in Queenstown for another 2 nights as the motel is fab and pretty cheap considering it's like having your own apartment. Guess we are blaming mumsy and auntie mary for the fact that we can't face a hostel at the min!
We're off for a Sol (beer in case you are wondering mum!) in the rain.
Bye for now a soggy Ju and Deb
