Bonnie's African Adventures
So here are things I wont ever forget about South Africa
- The way the clouds climb the mountains, and when you are on top of them it looks like a sea below.
- The wine trips and night where we get drunk over a 3$ bottle of wine that is actually usually very good (Sauvignon blanc has become my favorite white wine, and Pinotage and cabernet sauvignon are tied in the red department).
- The common room that is always full of people eating, playing catch phrase, or just talking late into the night. I have really been blessed with a great group of local Americans and internationals that are always just outside my door and ready to entertain.
- Family Dinners
- The open conversation my friends have here where bowel movements are always updated and sexual stories/ discussions are never missed (Europeans may be the most open people I know).
- Getting to see a rugby ball every day being passed around by random guys in Academia and campus (I just wish there were more girls playing as well).
- "is it", "as well", "lekker", "die moda", "Baie good", "Dankie", "plesier", "Yes", "zen"…
- Bohemia, Mystic, Brazen Head, Terrace, Tolleys, AndClass, Lush, Spring Bok, All Stars, Stones, Denims and Diamonds, Nu Bar…
- Ice Cream runs to Marcelles.
- Alex "I refract my last question and will eat my meal sans pepper". -Elaine's Birthday
- "No your other left"
- The feeling of climbing a mountain and looking at the landscape from the top.
- Doing things just because it's your only chance to ever do it (i.e. jump off a cliff)
- Mike Leslie- the AIFS God who is involved in everything and a role model to everyone in our program!
- Safety meetings
- Running with Anna.. and sometime Amre
- Yelling for Nico at his window
- My many names (bon bon, bobo, bonsai, bon-sauce, Bonified, bonnaroo, cinna-bon, bonton, bonvoyage, bongo, bonnifer, boniswa, bon appetite)… many of which come directly from Alex.. thanks J
- Watching random shows with Chris and Alex.
- The way the girls laugh in the townships in their high pitched happiness
- The south African accent/ but not the language
- The after rain smell of the townships
- 3 families / 15 people living in a room the size of an American bathroom.
- Race/ class is everywhere!
- Leigh my South Korean roommate and our discussions about food.
- Laura, Kate, Caitlin, Anna, Elane, Morgan, Chanel, Jacque, Alex, Chris, Ellen, Anna…
- Eernst- the King!
- Disney songs with Nico
- My German friends- hans-georg, nico, andy, neils… and the broken German they teach me
- The time hans fell off his bike, blew up like a balloon from eating fish, and had "runny tummy"… he almost did it make it in the beginning
