Recap from the last five days:
So Wednesday is called "little Saturday" meaning that it's the second biggest go out day at Stellenbosch (much like at Elon). Well I went out with my rugby team after practice to a local bar and had a drink and compared cultures. It was very interesting to sit and talk about everything from: who actually wears cowboy boots to rugby songs. I'm really starting to like the girls, and I think that'll I'll start looking forward to hanging out with them during and after practices (but they will never be my EWR girls).
Anywho, so I get back to the flat at like 8 and soon get a phone call from some of the guys that I hung out with last weekend on the canoe trip saying that they are in Academia (where I live). So I went to find them at a very intense Afrikans party and notice very soon after that I am very much behind them in their alcohol consumption. Well, soon after I get there a bunch of guys get on table and starting chanting the name of a bar downtown "Terrace" and the party moves there. While I protested, I was eventually kidnapped and in the back of a car on my way to the bar. It was fun though as we danced and took care of a very sick friend of there's till like 2:30 in the morning. I have affectionately been given the name "my Yankee" when introduced to their friends, but they are all really cool and exceptionally entertaining. Finally we ended up at the BP getting meat pies where I found a friend from Academia to take me home (well I kind of sat on the middle bar of his bike and rode until we fell over J ).
Thursday night was another Braai, actually it was one of the biggest I have seen yet. It was full on a bunch on international and Academia students with two grills cooking up a storm. I made my rounds swiping food and then ended up bringing out a rugby ball and teaching some kids touch rugby. In the end it turned into tackling, torn jeans, and a no longer white shirt. But it was fun!
Then for the weekend (Friday to Sunday) I went with the international club (ISOS) to a music festival, Raka, that's about 3 hours away. There were about 300 people camped along a river oasis on a farm in the middle of nowhere. While it was quite small with only one stage and no major bands, it was great for chilling. We spent the hottest part of the day jumping off the pier into the river and napping, then in the evening we danced to whatever random band came on the stage. It was fun and very chill, but nothing like Bonnaroo (Which I will be going to so if you want to welcome be home buy a ticket and come!!!).
