This was the first day of volunteering. The project was meant to be building a dam but because of the rainfall that they had the week before we weren't able to do it!! Apparently the hill where the dam is, is nearly vertical so would be near impossible getting up. Instead we went to a school in rural Koh Samui where we were given the opportunity to either paint pictures on the walls for the children to look at or help with the gardening and plant vegetables and paint tyres to stop the dogs getting in. One of the lead volunteers asked Joe and I if we could help with the gardening as one of the tasks was to carry tyres to the garden, so we said of course we would!! It was a blistering hot day, sun cream and insect repellent was slapped on all day! We brought the tyres over and painted them different colours. After that we then checked to see how the others were getting on with the wall and they had painted different fruit and vegetables which were very colourful. I tried my hand at a painting and drew some cherries, was a good feeling knowing that the children would be looking at the pictures and learning what they are and what they mean etc. for lunch we pre ordered what we wanted and I chose fish and chips - very Thai I know lol. After lunch we headed back to the hotel, it was free time so a group of us headed to the lovely beach and lay in the sun and also had a wee swim in the sea, it was so warm, just like being in a bath. After the each we then headed back to the hotel to get ready and went to Ark bar and had a bite to eat and a few drinks and then headed back to the hotel.
