Left Nelson for Greymouth and after an epic journey from 7.30am to 5pm we finally arrived! checked into the hostel and went straight down to the brewery tour at Monteiths. The tour was good but everyuone seemed much happier when we got into the tasting room! we tried all 7 different beers that they make including a black beer and then had half an hour to pur and drink as much as we wanted. Being backpackers, we felt we must take full advantage of this! We went to a pub afterwards, where we got a free dinner, but it took a while to walk to the counter as the fllor was so sticky! got two more free pints but had to sit outside as the pub was awful! The pregnant staff smoking looked like mercedes from hollyoaks! After we had drunk all the free beer we could manage we wandered home. Up the next morning for the journey to Franz Josef. The roads are so beautiful here i sat at the front just watching for a while. We stopped for a couple of kodak moments, but arrived at Franz Josef at midday. Went and got changed then met back to celebrate my birthday with a heli hike. We were put in groups and as the girls are lightest, we got to sit at the front of the helicopter so getting the best views! we had a scenic flight around the glacier, then landed quite high up for a hike. We went through ice caves and tuinnels, and drunk the water running down the side of the glacier as it was so fresh. It was absolutely amazing! Still in awe from it all. The helicopter picked us up after a couple of hours on the ice and delivered us back onto safe ground! Went out that night to celebrate! Left Franz nice and early yesterday morning and after stopping at lake matheson to see the reflection of mt cook as well as a couple of other photo stops, arrived in Lake Wanaka around half 2. My feet are looking pretty ruined so taking a holiday here. The hostel is really nice and has its own little movie room with a projector so lazed around watching tv. Watched the sunset over the lake from the hoestel, as it overlooks it which is a pretty amazing sight! spending today catching up on stuff then onto Queenstown tomorow, the adventure capital of the world! Really excited about seeing Charli next week in Christchurch!
