Day 8. He said: today is the day we go sailing with Jorge. This is one of the events we had on our honeymoon gift registry, so it has some particular meaning. I haven't been actually sailing (as opposed to boating in general) since a catamaran trip with my mom in Puerto Vallarta when I was in high school.
We caught the bus as usual, stopped for a coffee in town, then headed out to Puerto Mansa to meet Captain Jorge. We got a tiny bit lost, and picked up another pack of dogs that followed us - four of them this time. We eventually found the boat; it was actually at the first location we checked, but it was hidden behind the dock's observation platform. Luckily, I saw a mast that I hadn't noticed before. We went to the boat, and Jorge greeted us with a big "Amigos!" I already like him. It doesn't hurt that he looks a little bit like my Dad.
Rachel and I sat in the stern, took pictures and generally enjoyed being there. As is the usual theme, everything looked amazing. We took the boat to one of the national parks, and we went for a short hike. We only had about an hour, so we kept to the main loop - not that we really wanted to do the other 14km loop anyways, not after the mountain climbing experience yesterday.
Upon returning to the boat, Jorge had prepared a little snack - lemon scones and surprisingly good instant espresso. Who knew? A little scotch was provided as well, but Johnny Walker Red? Maybe just a tiny bit in the coffee. As we were finishing up, Jorge came below and asked if we wanted to be dropped off at the dock at Bahia Manzano - in other words, right at our resort in full view of our room. So that's today's photo - a view of our resort from the boat.
We collected our things, and headed out for Lomito sandwiches, ice cream, local beer and wifi.
- Lomito Sandwich: a steak sandwich, topped with fried egg, ham, tomato and lettuce. Awesome. It smelled great enough that I also acquired a canine audience while I ate. They left disappointed, though.
- Ice Cream: renowned in Argentina, I had Tiramísu, Chocolate (with almonds), and Dulce de Leche (with chocolate bits). Amazing. Rachel had Chocolate, Raspberry, and Mixed Berry flavours. Can't tell you what they tasted like - she wouldn't share. Of course, I didn't ask, either.
- local beer & wifi: self explanatory
Next up, we're going for our special fancy dinner out, but news of that will have to wait until later.
