Day 5. He said: today, we walked. And walked. Ok ok, let me start at the beginning.
First thing was the morning activity at the resort. Today, it was a local hike about the trees and other fauna. It was a gorgeous walk, lots of interesting trees and foliage. I didn't learn anything from the hike guide, however, as my Spanish is just about good enough to order the kind of coffee I like and that's about it. There were some really great local dogs that accompanied us on our walk, including one Doberman-ish mutt that absolutely had to carry the rock that he found back to the resort. I named him Spanish Jake, after Rachel's cousin-dog, Jake, who liked to play fetch with rocks.
After getting back to the resort, we decided that it'd be wise to adopt the local siesta custom and relax until later. We practiced our spanish. Rachel got better. I approached something close to not completely incompetent. Maybe.
After siesta time, we headed to town. On foot. No idea how far or how long we were in for. Turns out it was about 8km. We took our time, had a nice hand-in-hand walk, and got to the town a couple of hours before restaurant opening time (which is about 8pm). We stopped for coffee and baked goods in a cute bakery, dried off from the rain, did Internet stuff, and then headed to the tourist office. A very friendly person helped us navigate some of the questions we had regarding transportation and reservations, and we left to wander and find more coffee/wine.
Then the alarm went off.
Word to the wise: in Villa La Angostura, if you hear an air raid siren, it does not mean there is an air raid. It does not mean tornado, or hurricane, or volcano eruption. It means someone's house is on fire. It still sucks, but you don't need to run for shelter. We learned that today too.
And then we found the grocery store. A few lunch supplies later, another café, and we're ready to head back to the resort.
Hasta luego!
