Day 6. He said: Today turned out to be a bit of a lazy day.
First, we were up for breakfast before our beach hike. Today's photo is a panorama at the mouth of a river on the hike. Amazing terrain here. It's still astonishing how much it looks like Canada, and how different it is at the same time.
After the hike, we went back to the room for lunch and a siesta, then planned on getting rental bikes when the rental place opened at 2. Except we read the sign from our balcony. It was actually 9-2 & 5-9. The first and last numbers were extremely faint, so we saw 2-5. Whoops.
So we went back to our room. Rachel made a few phone calls; we have our sailing trip with Captain Jorge all set up - exclusivo! One thing about vacationing during an eruption tourism is that you don't really have to compete with other tourists. Fir today, we simply changed our plans to catch the local bus into town and shop. So we did - and I made a bit of an idiot of myself trying to describe a piece of camera gear I wanted to buy. I'll let Rachel explain it, as she was very amused by my "description". At any rate, we have over half of our souvenir shopping done already. We'll probably finish up the rest tomorrow, in Bariloche. We're planning a day trip, since we couldn't fly in there due to the airport closure, to see the town, and to try to see Rachel's friend, Brendan.
We're having dinner tonight in town, something that's "authentically" from this area. I'm thinking lamb and venison. No complaints here.

Fred Love both Lanb and Venison. Hoping tomorrow is fruitful for me, and I'm able to put venison in the freezer. Keep bloging, we're enjoying your adventure
Rachel So, are we having New Year's Eve venison?? As I'll get into in my post from yesterday, we haven't had any here yet. We were going to do our fancy dinner last night, but the places we wanted to get to (that had lamb and venison) weren't open, unfortunately. So we "settled" for a place that served amazing steaks, and it was a good choice.
