NZ's most liveable city, according to our Lonely Planet.
Well, our first impressions weren't that good - Saturday night and pubs were empty! Our hostel was virtually empty as well.
Sunday - most of the shops were closed and again, hardly a soul to be seen!
Still, the place did grow on us, although I'm not too sure about their Cathedral - typical 1950's design that looks very dated now.
Nelson also claims to be the geographical centre of NZ - so now we've been to the very top, the very bottom AND the very centre of New Zealand. How many people can claim that?!
We also did a day walk in the Abel Tasman National Park - we only did part of the full track (allegedly the most scenic part) but I have to say I was fairly underwhelmed by it. Yes, there are some nice secluded sandy beaches but most of the views were obscured by trees. Plus our feet were killing us after 5 hours of walking!
I think I can safely say that we've probably hit our zenith when it comes to walks - we seen and done so many here in NZ that they are starting to lose their appeal.
(There may be one last walk though - the Tongariro Crossing, which we weren't able to do earlier in our trip because of bad weather).
