Well hello again everyone,
We arrived in Bangkok on the 10th December, we had an overnight flight which left Sri Lanka at 1.30am, so we were absolutely knackered as we didnt get any sleep. We took a shuttle bus from the airport to the backpackers district- Khao san road. We arrived there about 8am and had to find somewhere to stay. This wasnt too difficult as the place was full of guesthouses and hotels....we stayed in a decent hotel which had cable(a bit of a luxury) and a swimming pool on the roof (basically a backpacker holiday inn!).
A lot of people said they didnt like Bangkok so we weren't sure what to expect but we actually really liked it. There was a great buzz about the place, the road was full of stalls and bars on the street, at night it was even better. We spent the first day just looking around (after catching up with our sleep) and went to a couple of the bars that evening. Ben made a friend called Dean who was a drunken english guy, he was absolutely wasted, he had bought everything possible from one of the lady street sellers including an annoying wooden frog that makes a stupid frog noise....check out the pic. Consequently Ben was sick the next morning.
The next day we took a long hot and sweaty walk to one of the massive shopping centres- the MBK centre, it had about 7 floors!! Ben treated himself to a haircut and a cauldron of prawn soup which looked mingin, the prawns still had their shells on! it took ages to look around although we didnt buy much, just our sim card and a new memory card for the camera. It was nice to be somewhere cool and the place was quite interesting. We watched a film in the cinema there, which was very comfortable and had to stand for the national anthem before the film started (the thais love their king!! i mean love!) The king is everywhere, there are pictures of him down the main roads and in most shops and restaurants.
The next day we decided to do a bit of sight seeing, temples, Buddhas etc....then spent the evening back down Khao san road having a drink at a street bar. We met a few Ozzies that night and went on a bit of a bar crawl and yes Ben was wasted but not sick woooooohoooooo!
On our final day we got ready to leave as we were getting an overnight bus to Phuket. We were supposed to get picked up from our hotel which we thought meant the bus would pick us up but Oh No! We had to get on the back of mopeds with our rucksacks, i was holding on to the little Thai guy for dear life, bearing in mind my backpack is heavier than me and i had nothing to support it on, i really thought i was going to die. Luckily i didnt but had really sore shoulders!!
