Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
We woke in the cabin after a good nights sleep, we got up ready to go to the zoo, so we were showered early. The zoo was on the edge of Philly, so the drive wasn't too bad. We arrived and there was kids everywhere, luckily they were on the way back to school. We went in and the first thing we saw were some endangered bats, I don't think I've ever seen bats in a zoo in fairness, so that was quite interesting. They also had vampire bats with bowls of what looked like blood in the enclosure, but that remains to be seen if that was what it was. The zoo was quoted as "Americas first zoo" which I was unaware of, so quite a tag line to live up to. They have a 360 trail that lets animals like the big cats, gorillas and monkeys go around the zoo in caged off heightened walkways. So it was really cool to see lemurs cross the path above our head, which made it feel like the animals had more freedom. The gorillas were great, there was a little baby who went everywhere with her mum just holding onto her back leg, and the male kept strutting around like he owned the place. One of the orangutangs sat there with a towel on his head all day, and the tigers were fighting over a ball. There was a chameleon that I was absolutely taken by, thought it was brilliant, it's weird eyes and fingers. We also saw an anaconda that I'm pretty sure was the width of me. The animals were really active and it made for a lot better experience all round. We had to get some shopping at the super market on the way back, so we did that, having gone a back Route home to avoid traffic. It had been a long day, so we got back to the cabin and relaxed for a bit before going to bed.
