Today, we woke up in the Historic Route 66 KOA camp and the showers were horrendous, like a leaky gutter. After seeing some of the old Route 66 and it's landmarks we decided to carry on on the trail, this took us to the Cozy Dog Diner to start with, the home of the Cozy Dog. Which is essentially a battered hot dog on a stick, but the little diner had lots of trinkets and items for sale all dedicated to Route 66. We woke extra early this morning because we were setting off to find the original start point of Historic Route 66 and to complete the first part of road tripping the entire "Mother Road". So we set off from camp for Lou Mitchell's, the starting point for those who had the same aspirations as us. The drive into Chicago was sketchy at best, lanes were tight and it was ridiculously busy. Now we were just south of Chicago, in a place called Kankakee, and having heard the rumours about Chicago, we were hesitant to go. But that was to happen tomorrow, today, we decided after the long drives we had had lately, we would have a day chilling at camp in the sun. A little lay in meant we were ready to go to the local Walmart around 12, we had a KFC for lunch and bought supplies for dinner, and some beers and some strawberry daiquiris for Marie, not a beer...

Today we woke to a a nice warm day in the tent, after what was a very cold night, we got ready and cooked some breakfast, beans, scrambled egg and toast, which was a good start to the day, even made a green tea each. Then we drove 2 hours to Volo, a place in which I don't think I have ever wanted so many things so badly. The cars on show were insane, Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, even the General Lee.
