Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
We started the day by heading into Springfield to see the Lauterbach giant, placed outside a tire shop on Wabash Avenue. Picture opportunities were fairly difficult as it was so close to the road. Plus we looked like we were in full tourist mode, which seems to have been happening more and more often. But then again, I suppose we are tourists. After that, we went back to the Cozy Dog Drive In for lunch, Marie had another corn dog and I decided to have a hot dog and a burger. America is not going to look good on me. We then set off for a supposed 5 hour drive, which ended up taking us around 13 hours, having set off from Cozy Dog at 12:30, we finally arrived at our KOA camp at nearly 1am. We stopped along the way at all of the Route 66 stops. That's what held us up. We stopped at the Soulsby gas station, the mustang Corral and we saw all the old motels along the route too. We also stopped at Walmart for a necessary monster energy drink and at a risky McDonald's for a toilet break. But by the time we arrived, we had had enough for one day. They say Route 66 is not always about the destination, but it is about the journey, and I will always remember this one.
