En route to Franz Josef we visted the Bushman Pete´centre where we learned about the local wildlife. We watched a hilarious film on deer hunting, laughed at watching one of the guys feed the worlds biggest pig and said awwwwwww as Ben cuddled a baby lamb.
The weather was terrible in Franz Josef and the evening was spent praying to the heavens for semi decent weather so that we could climb the glacier. We were certain that it would be called off, but luckily it wasn´t. Our group took the bus to the glacier and attempted to climb it in driving rain, gale force winds and sub-zero temperatures. We climbed the glacier for around four hours and became experts at walking on ice. Our guide neglected to tell us that, on completion of the climb, because of the heavy rain, we would be required to wade, knee-deep across a glacial stream in order to get back to the bus. The journey back to the bus was crazy and it took a long time for us the thaw out. Despite this it was a truly unique experience.
