On the way to Queenstown we stopped off at Lake Wanaka where people did a sky dive. Due to Lucy´s little legs still hurting from the glacier walk she went to Puzzleworld with some of the Irish Girls and exercised her brain. I and eleven others on the otherhand went paintball shooting which was so much fun. I managed to survive the event, but some of the guys were covered in bruises. One of the German guys looked like his neck had had far too much fun with a hoover!!!
Queenstown is known as "The Adventure Capital of the World" and it certainly lives up to the hype. I had been thinking of doing a bungy jump for a few days now and there was much talk about it on the bus. On arrival in Queenstown, male pride (or male stupidity?) took over and a group of us decided to sign up for the "Thrilogy" (Luce could not be persuaded!) The first jump was the Kawarau Suspension Bridge (43m) which was the first commercial bungy jump in the world. To say I was apprehensive would be an understatement, but I successfully managed to throw myself off the bridge. As to why people do a Bungee I do not know, but I loved every minute of it. I think Luce was just as scared as I was from where she was on the viewing platform.
The next one was the ledge which was a 47m jump but 400m high over Queenstown at night! This jump was probably the worst of the three, mainly due to the running off the ledge in total darkness. That evening we went to the famous Fergburger restaurant and consumed vast amounts of alcohol celebrating the teams bungees performances so far!
Monday saw 6 of us taking the bus out of town to the Nevis River to complete the thrilogy - 143m above it was a small cable car suspended between each side of the gorge. Everyone agreed that this jump, despite looking like the scariest thing of all time, was well worth every penny. That night was spent 'celebrating' the completion of the Big Three with a serious pub crawl - leading to most people spending 90% of yesterday stuck in their beds. Me and Lucy on the other hand decided at 5am that perhaps we should leave the merriment (actually only because Ben had had his contact lenses in so long he could barely see - or was it drunkeness?) and managed to have around 50 minutes sleep before Luce had to violently wake me up (threatening to leave me behind) so that I would be able to catch the bus back to Christchurch.
