We arrived in Christchurch after a painless flight from Melbourne and checked into our hostel. Christchurch is known as 'The Garden City' is the South Island's largest, and New Zealand's second largest city even though it only has a population of about 300,000. Our hostel was in the Cathedral Square which is the main focal point for the City. Although the Cathedral was impressive it was merely a shed compared to my beloved Lincoln Cathedral!! After a good nights sleep we spent the majority of the next day investing in some warmer clothes and hiking trainers. It was a tough decision choosing which ones to go for, (Lucy had to get a pair that matched her trousers) but we were pleased with our choices. In the afternoon we wandered some more around the gardens and had some lunch before meeting Sam (Emma´s friend) for some drinks and food. Having had a really good evening we retired to bed, full of excitement for our trip around New Zealand with Stray.
