Woke up in our little jail cell, all ready and excited for Troy to see snow! I am do my best over a breakfast of coffee, to try and dampen his spirits a bit: "it hasn't snowed in weeks, it is summer after all, no it's not going to be white and fluffy, it'll be quite icey and slouchy I think", so he isn't disappointed. But no, Troys still pretty convinced he'll have soft snow flakes falling onto his face haha. We catch the bus to the bottom of Mt Pilatas, and get a cable car up the mountain. Simply, it was amazing. You could see the whole town and lake slowest disappear in front of you, and hear to sound of the happy cows wondering about on farmland under us. The cow bells are the sweetest thing ever, Australia should implement this! The forest becomes thicker as we progress up the mountain, and we see absolutely picturesque cottages and cabins dotting the landscape. The mist and fog begins to creep in as we reach the first landing point, and have to change gondolas. Our view is hidden by fog for a while before cliff tops start poking through! We are very high up and the mountain looms over us as we reach to top, I start to pint out the massive clumps of snow and ice covering the mountain to Troy but he is determined that its not snow and we will see more when we get out haha. Firstly is freezing and second and sadly these isn't any fresh snow:( but there are a few clumps we get photos with and have quite a laugh at watching the mountain goats frolic about! Mountain goats are so cool, shame all of our best pics are on the camera!!! The ride down the mountain was just as good, ill never forget the view! We make our way back to the hotel before going to lunch, mainly to use the toilet as public ones do not exist in Europe...or are expensive. So we chat with people in the lobby before setting out again for our cheese fondu lunch! After trying the think, gooey cheese on the nachos yesterday, we are pretty excited for a proper Swiss cheese!! The place is pretty crazy, with variety acts as entertainment; yodeling, cow bells, broom dancing, giant horns, people dressed up as cows...just general Swiss craziness. The cheese was a bit of a let down, not exactly sure what why the taste was slightly off, possibly to much white wine? But the sausage was ok, but the desert was exactly the same as the hotels last night, boo! But the entertainment was great, so it's ok. We then walk to the lake and up on a lovely little cruise:) the captions voice sounds just like Arnys! Lucerne is just beautiful, with properties on one side of the town valuing at about 4million. The mountains that roll into the lake are covered with dwellings and we have a good afternoon, laying back and enjoying the sun. After this, Liz takes is to the lion monument, know to many as the saddest sculpture in the world. Mark twine praised the sculpture as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world." And it truly is heart wrenching to see:( It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris, France. King Louie and Marie Antoinette, hired the Swiss guard for their protection, but "forgot" to tell them that they fled and abandoned the palace! So when the huge masses of revolutionaries stormed the palace, all the Swiss guards died for nothing. You can see the proud lion being stabbed by the French, and if you look closely, you can see the shape around the lion is in a form of a pig. French pigs! Although this was never confirmed by the artist. It's really sad to look at, and I hope my picture does it justice! We dawdle back to the hotel after this, browsing in shops ect. We have a small nap before dinner, which we decide we will not have at the hotel haha! Most people have foregone the free dinner, in search of more tasty things, and we found an Indian just down the road, yay! Me, wriggles, Troy, Tals and Elliott, have a delicious feast of butter chicken, tika misala, roganjosh, nan and onion baji! We then walk into town and be toblerone mcflurrys haha! Feeling very full, we pass the rest of the night playing uno! Brilliant day! Onto st goar tomorrow!!
