Becky Bravo's Adventures
So, for a vacation that was supposed to be comprised of doing a whole lot of nothing, we actually did quite a lot! Our second full day in Jamaica, we did two excursions.
Our first excursion was to Dunn's River Falls: It's about 180 feet (55 m) high and 600 feet (180 m) long. We hiked up the whole thing, and did it safely, Jaime slipped and got quite a lovely scrape as a souvenir. He was alright though. The falls were rough, and parts were slippery, but we had a guide to help us, and it was a great experience.
Then we were off to Dolphin Cove where in addition to swimming with dolphins, we got to do a bunch of other awesome stuff too!
We got to get in the ocean and pet and hold a sting ray, (no pics of that) drive a speed boat out on the open water, hold some parrots, and see a giant iguana.
I was so excited by the time it was our turn to be with the dolphins. They really are as pretty and gentle as they seem. We got to pet and interact with them (both of our dolphins were girls) If I remember correctly, their names were Kai and Calypso. They also swam up behind us and pushed us out of the water. - Like each dolphin got underneath each foot and then they lifted us up. That was pretty sweet. They also swam up to us, we grabbed their fins, and they pulled us while swimming on their back. The grand finale was that we got to have them "kiss" us, and we got to return the kiss to each of them.
As an animal lover, I wanted to ensure the dolphins were treated well, and apparently the dolphins survive longer in Dolphin Cove then they would in the wild. Their oldest dolphin was 48 years old! They love interacting with people, and believe me when I tell you they are fed very well.
By the end of the day, we were exhausted for sure. Luckily the next day consisted of more lounging by the pool and actually doing nothing.
We ate at the Caribbean restaurant and my favorite quote of the trip is as follows:
Becky: "I don't eat meat, so can I just have the entree with potatoes and veggies?"
Server: "No meat? No problem - we have an excellent swordfish."
Becky: "No, I'm a vegetarian."
Server: *Stares blankly*
Jaime: "No animals."
Server: "Ohhhh, ok."
Definitely a foreign concept to this guy.
