We arrived safe and sound in Singapore, our second country on our list. We were really sad to leave India but as soon as we got here we didn't look back. Singapore is amazing and sooo different to India! Firstly its spotlessly clean, its so modern and you don't get hassled at every corner - bliss! We stayed in a place called the Hangout which was a first hostel experience - we hope they are all like this. It was lovely here, you could still smell the fresh paint. The beds were really comfy, hot showers, free internet and all-you-can-eat breakfast!! The only downside was the price at 10 pounds each per night which is about 10 times the price of what we were paying in India!
Having only 3 days here we decided to make the most of it and get our priorities right and headed straight for shopping on Orchard Rd - Oxford Street eat your heart out! After 8 hours trawling the shops both our feet and bank accounts had had enough so we headed back home for refueling until the evening where we hit Clarkes Quay. This is a bigger and a lot more glamorous version of Bristol's waterfront with endless bars and restaurants overlooking the Singapore River, here we indulged in good Singapore food and Tiger Beer.
Day 2 we visited the Singapore Zoo, its really nice here as the animals are in open areas and free to roam. After 3 hours here animal spotting we headed to the night safari where we watched a 'creatures of the night' show and took a tram ride through the safari park where we saw lions, tigers, elephants and lots of deer and a bearded pig etc......
Day 3 - Sentosa Island. This is Singapore's manmade island resort home to an aquarium, man made beaches, Carlsberg Sky Tower and gardens. We went there by cable car which had some great views of Singapore harbour and the huge cruise liners and cargo ships. We went up the Sky Tower (which is 136 metres above sea level!), it rotates as it goes up to give you a 360 degree view of the city. After this we visited the aquarium, this was really cool and we got to see lots of colourful fishes and big sharks. We also got to touch small sharks and rays. We were also meant to watch a dolphin show but this got rained off - it has rained a lot here!!
We wished we had a lot longer here as there is lots to see and do and shop but its probably a good thing that we left on Thursday because of our budgets - hopefully Bangkok will be kinder to us!!
Hope everyone is well back home, wishing you were all here!
Lots of love,
