After travelling hundreds of miles we are now in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Since our last log we have visited Jaipur, Ranthambore and Pushkar.....
Jaipur
We thought Jaipur was a s*** hole! It was smelly, dirty, the people were really unfriendly and drove like complete maniacs! Need we say more! Its only saving graces was the desert/mountain lanscape which was a refreshing change and also our visit to the Amber palace which had fab views.
Ranthambore
We stayed within Ranthambore National Park which is 1300 sq km and has 35-40 tigers within it. We went on an early morning (6am) safari to try and spot one! It was our lucky day as we got to see one and we're feeling quite smug as no one for the past week had seen one!! It was amazing to see one in the wild and we're hoping to go on another tiger safari down south.
Pushkar
Puskar was the smallest place that we have visited so far and set around a holy lake in the mountians. Its really peaceful and relaxed here mainly because alcohol is banned and most people are high on bhang lassi!! Its very popular with the hippy travellers and we thought that if we stayed here for much longer we would have been converted to Hindu ways!!
Bikaner
We stopped at its famous rat temple where Hindu's worship holy rats (we're not joking - they believe they are dead storytellers). There are literally thousands of rats running around, its really disgusting and what is worse that people go there to eat the food that rats have slobbered over! We had a good wonder round but didn't partake in any food eating! Didn't spot the lucky white rat either!
Now we are in Bikaner city, there isn't much here apart from yet another fort so we're off to Jaisalmer for a camel safari if our car makes it - we have already had 2 flat tyres and a flat battery!
We'll keep you posted!
Take care, love us xxx
