I've somewhat abused the blog since being on Koh Lipe and we leave in a days time so rather than list everything I've done here I figured I'd explain to you the Thai lessons I've learned since being here instead.
Lesson number one..."Mai pen rai". Literally translates as "no worries", nothing ever goes to plan in Thailand but it always turns out fine in the end. We learnt this after our first few days here. And I think it's something that's going to help with everything I do here for the next 5 months.
Lesson number two... make friends with the Thai's, they are the friendliest people you will ever meet and will go out of their way to make you welcome and happy. On the first night here we made friends with Mutt and Tam, they both own a bar on one of the beaches, cook the most incredible food and are the best hosts. They've taken us on days out snorkelling etc and Tam's now offered to make us anklets with pretty shells we collected on the beaches to remind us of our time here.
Lesson number three...health related...could be seen as one of the most important. Do NOT buy hotdogs of the banana bread lady, it's ironic that she even sells hot dogs therefore I should have expected nothing less than to get a very very poorly tummy of it. Which I did. 48 hours and counting since the said incident and I've managed to eat a meal, score. Needless to say I won't be making that mistake again.
Lesson number four...closely linked to lesson number three...Thai pharmacists (generalisation) speak very good english and give you nice herbal remedies when you explain your illnesses. I got given medicinal charcoal. Odd. It's seems to be doing something, whether it's good or bad is yet to be decided.
Lesson number five... you need to know just because it's amusing... Thai culture see's it as rude to blow your nose in front of someone but picking your nose is completely acceptable. er gross.
I'm going to miss this island.
