Melbourne to Adelaide (Great Ocean Road), 7th April to 9th April.
I met my tour bus early in the morning to be rather suprised that the guide was actually a 23 year old welsh girl - not who you would expect to pass on their knowledge of history, culture and geology aye!!?? She was very nice but a terrible tour guide! After such a good one for Tasmania as well! The tour group was called Groovy Grape so I noted to myself not to use them again - the whole point of a tour is for someone to teach you stuff about the places you are visited, the girl was lovely but acted more like a bus driver than anything else.
However there was a nice suprise and that was that by coincidence a guy, DJ, who had been on my previous Tasmania tour was also on this tour. He was a really sweet dutch guy so it was good that there was someone I knew.
We got to stop at all the surf outlet stores (as it was where it all begun for them) just before we joined the great ocean road and I found my reef flip flops - for only a fiver as well, I was chuffed to bits - yey!!!
We then got to travel along the great ocean road where you can see amazing rock formations in the sea such as the 12 Apostles and London's Bridge - there was an interesting story about this so remind me to tell it when I get back. We also got to stop and look at the sleeping Kualas that were a sleep in trees near the road. We saw sunset behind the 12 Apostles and stayed in dorm accomodation. The following day it was quite a long drive with loads of photo stops to the Grampians national park. We got there just before dusk so we hiked up to a lovely waterfall and took some MORE pictures! There were millions of Kangaroos and Wallabies round here, we got to stay in some cabin like dorm rooms inside the park and the field next to us was covered in animals!!
The following morning we headed out early and set off on a great hike that took us up to the top of a mountian in the national park, it was pretty hard work getting up with some climbing involved but everyone managed it. It was quite a young group and few people were actually kitted out right - one girl only had Ug boots to walk in so ended up doing most of it barefoot (she happened to be from Evesham!). It was a really long drive from here to Adelaide so we had hours and hours on the road, we did get to stop to see a wildlife park that had white Kangaroo's but they didn't actually look that nice and I think there was a fair bit of inter breeding going on to continue the line!
We got to Adelaide by about 6pm and I stayed in the old reliable YHA! I did meet the group for drinks that night but I managed to sneak off early as I couldn't really be arsed - the conversation wasn't up to much! The following day I did see everyone again as we all took the tram to Glenelg beach - it was the first time I actually did any sun bathing! I had a nice day there and headed back to Adeliade with Sarah so we could look round a bit - there is a whole street with real nice old colonial buildings. I quite like Adelaide as it is quite small and nicely set out - there are loads and loads of park areas there. The following day Sarah and I headed out on our trip to Kangaroo Island.
